They need him because a Darwinian science of human nature supports Burkean conservatives and Lockean liberals in their realist view of human imperfectibility, and in their commitment to ordered liberty as rooted in natural desires, cultural traditions, and prudential judgments. Happy Darwin/Lincoln Day!
Today we celebrate the 211th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln, who were born on February 12, 1809. Beyond the coincidence of their being born on the same day, there were many points of connection in their lives and thought.
